Yeovil Creatives are an innovative bunch of writers and artists. They use the Hub – a café and scrapstore on Pen Mill trading estate – as one of their meeting places. I recently went to see a private view there of the work of the very talented Esther Jeanes. Esther is one of the mums from the school where our kids all go. Her paintings show an incredible amount of natural ability as well as that she captures the essence and atmosphere of our beautiful county in her artwork.
It’s worth saying that you can pop into the Hub anytime for a coffee – there is a play area complete with tepee for the kids and it is such a lovely spacious and light area that if you came in for a quiet coffee without kids you wouldn’t be bothered by any kids in there!! The Hub itself is actually a charity which provide support and training to empower the lives of people with learning disabilities and autism, and just one of the venues used by the Yeovil Creatives.
I dropped in one weekend and they happened to have the work of another local artist named Emily Duchscherer Kirk. She is doing a project to make 100 mini paintings. I really admire her can-do attitude. You can view her affordable artworks on her website and it’s worth saying that if you get a chance to view them in reality their texture and vibrancy really jump out.
I would love to find the time to do more art myself, here’s one of my pictures.
